Cenote Ik Kil

Unbelievable Natural Beauty

A spectacular attraction in Mexico is the Yucatan cenotes, admired for its natural beauty, crystal clear waters, sheer vertical walls lined with vines and flowers.

Cenote Ik Kil is an amazing, deep natural cenote or well, with an open top cylindrical, formed as a result of a collapsing cave. It’s close proximity to the archaeological site of Chichen Itzá and its natural beauty, have made it a choice stop for the multitude of tours that visit the area.

Located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, Cenote Ik Kil is one of the deepest in the world. Its depth is more than 50 meters, and the height of the walls reaches 25 meters. Past years it had been chosen for international competitions of cliff diving due to its depths of 39 meters and 60 meters wide. To the ancient Maya, Cenote Ik Kil was sacred, because it was a source of fresh water and a place of ritual services.

The hanging vines, small waterfalls and sheer walls make Cenote Ik-Kil one of the most visually arresting cenotes in Mexico. Visitors can swim and snorkel in its deep crystal clear waters which are also home to black catfish. Reliable stone stairs have been cut in walls, as well as excellent viewing platforms. The cenote is part of a complex that includes a restaurant, store, changing rooms, and cottages for rent.
