Hitachi Seaside Park is one of the most beautiful public gardens in Japan. It is home to a spectacular variety of colorful, seasonal flowers including sky blue nemophila and vivid crimson kochia. It is located in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki, about 50 kilometers north of Tokyo, and draws many visitors to enjoy the floral wonders.
Covering an area of 190 hectares, the sprawling park features incredible variety of blooming flowers and grasses throughout the four seasons. The Park is magically transformed into different areas, with specific theme of plants and flowers.
Particularly stunning in spring, is Miharashi Hill which is covered with blue Nemophila also known as Baby Blue Eyes, after the blue sky when in full bloom. In autumn, the Kochia bushes dramatically paint Miharashi Hill, a magnificent crimson. In addition the park features a million daffodils, 170 varieties of tulips, and many other flowers.
Hitachi Seaside Park features a small amusement park with over 25 rides and attractions, including a Ferris wheel, putter golf, cycling tracks, a BMX course, a roller coaster and BBQ areas. There are a variety of restaurants and cafes which serve regional foods and seasonal sweets. Hitachi Seaside Park also hosts the annual Rock in Japan Festival in August.
