Surrounded by spectacular scenery and traditional culture, China’s famous river is hailed as having one of the world’s largest and most beautiful karst landscapes.
Li River or Lí Jiāng, is one of the world’s top watery wonders. Its beautiful natural landscapes has been captured for centuries by Chinese artists and poets, and its breath-taking scenery is proudly displayed on the 20 Yuan bank note. Located in Guilin City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Li River is the highlight of sightseeing tour in Guilin.
Originated in the Mao’er Mountains, Li River flows through Guilin to Yangshuo and resembles an artist’s masterpiece, painted with rolling mountains, featuring cliffs, unique caves and comfortable boats. The upper region of the Li River is connected to Xiang River which eventually drains into China’s largest river, the Yangtze.
Along the 83-kilometer long waterway from Guilin to Yangshuo are great attractions such as: Elephant-Trunk Hill, Hencoop Hill, Saddle Hill, Ox Gorge, Pagoda Hill, Duxu Ancient Town, Yellow Cloth Shoal and the Forest of Odd Shaped Peaks.
Some of the attractions are made more beautiful by their mirrored reflection on the peaceful water of the river; they have fired the saying, “Guilin has the most beautiful scenery in China, and Yangshuo is the most valuable part of Guilin.”
