Spain’s national art gallery, houses the world’s richest and most comprehensive collection of Spanish painting, as well as masterpieces of European painting.
The elegant, Prado Museum, officially known as Museo Nacional del Prado, is the main Spanish national art museum, and one of the world’s greatest art galleries. Located in central Madrid, it is Madrid’s top cultural sight and a popular attraction.
Opened in 1819, Museo del Prado’s is housed in an 18th-century Neo-Classical building. Its collection comprises over 8,600 paintings from Spanish-Flemish Gothic to the Renaissance. It also has more than 700 sculptures featuring Spanish, Italian and Flemish art styles.
The amazing collection dating from the 12th century to the early 20th century, are based on the former Spanish Royal Collection. It include masterpieces by renowned artists including: Velázquez, Goya, Raphael, Rubens, and Bosch and many others. In addition, are impressive collections of drawings, prints, and sculptures, and other works of art and historic documents.
