The Smithsonian NASM, features the largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft in the world, including some original icons of the age of flight.
The National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution or NASM, is located in Washington, D.C., USA. It is a center for research into the history, science of aviation and spaceflight, planetary science, terrestrial geology and geophysics.
The museum contains some icons of the age of flight, from the Wright brothers, ‘Wright Flyer’ plane to Charles Lindbergh’s, ‘Spirit of St. Louis’. It also has Captain Chuck Yeager’s, ‘Bell X-1’; the ‘Mercury Friendship 7 spacecraft’ that astronaut, John Glenn rode into orbit; and the Apollo 11 Command Module, ‘Columbia’, that brought Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin home from the Moon.
The Air and Space Museum are in two locations: the DC’s National Mall, which displays aircrafts, larger items from travel and exploration in space and thousands of smaller items. The Udvar-Hazy Centre in Chantilly, which also has a spectacular collection of aircrafts, space artifacts including the Space Shuttle Discovery.
