A natural phenomenon of incredible glittering sea shores has planted this Maldives Island on the global map, attracting visitors to the sight at night.
The tiny Vaadhoo Island of Raa Atoll in the Maldives, is famous for the mystical glowing blue waves that reveals itself at night. It has attracts millions of tourists, eager to capture the surreal glowing ‘Sea of Stars’ to this tiny island.
On the sandy shores of Vaadhoo Island, under dark skies, the natural spectacles of surreal glowing blue waters of ‘Sea of Stars’ can be seen. This is caused by a natural chemical reaction known as bioluminescence, which takes place when the water is disturbed by oxygen.
Phytoplankton, the marine microorganisms in the water have a blue luminescence that occurs as they produce toxins. The phytoplankton’s blue glow is like a defence mechanism which wards off other marine organisms from eating them. This result in a glittering and sparkling ‘Sea of Stars’.
