The popular Volksfest held in Germany, is the most famous beer event in the world, an amazing Bavarian social gathering that combines entertainments and food.
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest, held in the fairgrounds of Theresienwiese, in the German city of Munich. The historic folk festival runs from mid-September to early October, and attracts more than six million people from around the world.
The festival is a social event and a celebration of Bavarian culture and ‘liquid gold,’ beers of the region. As well as the many beer tents, there are live entertainments, traditional costumes, parades and a vast array of German traditional cuisine and exciting attractions, such as amusement rides and side-stalls games.
The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig, to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities, which were held over five days on the fields.
