Being an actor or actress isn’t all Hollywood glitz and glam and at times it can be downright dangerous. Some of them had sadly passed away during filming.

You may find this hard to believe but some actors and actresses play dangerous and in some cases – even lethal. We take a look at some of these artists who tragically passed away while filming a movie, and in sad circumstances.

Below are 12 great actors/actress whose lives ended before filming their projects.

12. Vic Morrow

American actor and director, Vic Morrow was killed in a helicopter crashed at, Santa Clarita, California, during the making of Twilight Zone: The Movie, on July 23, 1982. The crash killed three people on the ground—actor Vic Morrow and two child actors, Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen—as well as injuring the six helicopter passengers.

The incident led to years of civil and criminal action and was directly responsible for the introduction of new procedures and safety standards within the filmmaking industry.

11. John Candy

Canadian actor and comedian, John Franklin Candy was filming, 'Wagons East' and had just completed the new comedy western, when tragedy struck. He was found dead on location in Durango, Mexico, on March 4, 1994, at the age of 43. It was later reported that the actor had suffered a heart attack in his sleep.

10. Oliver Reed

British actor, Oliver Reed died of a heart attack during a break while filming ''Gladiator in Valetta, Malta'. It was speculated that the heart attack was caused by excessive drinking during the shoot, although he had not drank in months.

Fortunately none of Reed's scenes had been shot at the time of his death so the production company created a digital body double for his scenes. At an additional cost of $3.2 million Reed's face was mapped onto the stunt double for two minutes of additional footage.

9. Roy Kinnear

The 54-year-old British actor, Roy Kinnear, was filming, 'The Return of the Musketeers' in Toledo, Spain when he fell from a horse and broke his pelvis. The Spanish crew had misunderstood directions of director Richard Lester and washed the cobblestone street prior to filming, making the ground wet.

When Kinnear rode into the shot, the horse slipped and Kinnear fell. He was taken to the hospital, but subsequently suffered a heart attack and died.

8. Tyrone Power

One of the great American star of the 1930s to the 1950s, Tyrone Power was filming 'Solomon and Sheba' in Madrid, Spain when he suffered a heart attack while filming a dueling scene. The 44-year-old swashbuckler, was driven back to the hotel, but fainted in the lobby and could not be revived.

The cause of death was ruled a fulminant Angina pectoris. Two third of the movie had been shot when Power died, and Yul Brynner was recast in the role.

7. Edith Webster

American actress, Edith Webster died on stage while performing her death scene in the play “The Drunkard,” in Baltimore. The role called for her to sing “Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone,” and the actress was then supposed to slump to the floor and die She had been playing this role for eight years.

On November 24, 1986, after singing the song, she fell to the floor, dead, and the audience gave her a resounding applause. But this time when the actress fell, she had suffered a fatal heart attack.

6. Ken Steadman

Kenneth Steadman, was an American film and television actor, who starred in a relatively successful TV series called 'Sliders.' The sci-fi adventure show lasted for five years from 1995-2000. The show required a fair amount of stunt work, which the actor performed on his own.

However, the Dune Buggy that Steadman was driving overturned on a dry lake bed in Adelanto, California. Steadman was flown to San Bernadino via helicopter where he died upon arrival.

5. Renato Di Paolo

Italian actor, Renato Di Paolo was in a play portraying Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus Christ. The play, which took place in the tiny village of Camerata Nuova, 45 miles from Rome, required Di Paolo to be tied to a tree by a noose. According to report, the young actor had played the part safely the previous evening.

However, this time during the scene, he jumped off a rock about a foot off the ground, the noose tightened around his neck, and accidentally hanged himself.

4. Claudio Cassinelli

46 year-old Italian actor, Claudio Cassinelli, known for The Mountain of the Cannibal God in 1978, Murder-Rock: Dancing Death in 1984, and La polizia chiede aiuto in 1974, died on the set of Sergio Martino’s film Vendetta Dal Futuro in Page, Arizona in July 1985. Cassinelli was on a helicopter that crashed into the Navajo Bridge due to a pilot error.

3. Brandon Lee

Brandon Bruce Lee, an American actor and son of the famous martial artist Bruce Lee, died during the filming of The Crow in 1994. A prop gun had been squib loaded, causing the blank cartridge to propel the bullet into Lee and kill him. Contrary to urban legend, the footage of his death was not kept in the movie. Instead, they re-shot the scene using a different actor, whose death in the film was by a throwing knife.

2. Jon Erik Hexum

26-year-old American model and actor, Jon-Erik Hexum was filming the TV series 'Cover Up' when he became bored onset. Hexum impatiently unloaded all the blank rounds from his prop gun. He thought it would be fun to play Russian roulette with the empty gun but didn't realize that the wadding from the blank rounds can cause injury if fired close enough to the body.

The impact shattered a piece of his skull and caused massive hemorrhaging. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared brain dead six days later.

1. Paul Walker

American actor, Paul Walker began his career guest-starring in several television shows such as The Young and the Restless and Touched by an Angel. He was a passenger in a car that crashed head-on into a concrete lamp post and two trees, in December, 2013.

It is believed that Walker died before the car caught on fire. The fatal car crash that killed Paul Walker was caused by speed and not mechanical failure. Walker died in the middle of filming - Furious 7, the sixth sequel in the wildly popular franchise.
